ART THROUGH THE CLASSROOM WINDOW
AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
An educational program for the students of Akrotiri Primary School in Akrotiri, Santorini.
Art is not only a “subject” or “curriculum content”—it is (primarily) a form of expression, aiming at communication through creation.
The triad of expression–creation–communication is often left out of the educational process. Yet, it is becoming increasingly clear that the skills related to this triad are essential for personal development and self-actualization.
The proposed workshops in poetry, documentary filmmaking, and photography aim to enrich the educational experience in this very direction.
They offer students a unique opportunity for creative exploration and provide teachers with valuable know-how.
POETRY AND PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS
The Poetry Workshop, titled “The Words of the Ear”, encouraged the courage of independent thinking and the freedom of expression. It supported children with limited language skills and/or different cultural backgrounds in their integration into the group and the local community
The Photography Workshop, titled “The Red Thread of Memory”, focused on the issue of protecting the local environment, connecting it with the history of the place and its people.

NARRATIVE FILM MAKING WORKSHOP
The Narrative Film-making Workshop focused on experiential storytelling and the realistic documentation of everyday life through the lens of documentary. The goal was to create a short documentary film by the young students, featuring stories from their village — Akrotiri, Santorini.
